Care for Your New Ink

Ensure Longevity and Vibrancy

Proper aftercare is crucial for healing and preserving your tattoo. Follow our expert tips to keep your ink vibrant and minimize the risk of infection. Your tattoo deserves the best care to look stunning for years to come.

Standard Protection

Keep the Covering On
Leave the protective covering on your new tattoo for at least 30 minutes to 2 hours post-session. This barrier helps shield your tattoo from bacteria and minimizes bleeding.

Remove the Covering and Clean the Area
After the time has passed, gently remove the cover. Use lukewarm water and a mild, unscented antibacterial soap to wash the area by hand. Avoid using any cloths or sponges that could irritate the skin.

Let It Breathe
Allow your tattoo to air dry completely. Do not apply any towels or tissues, as these can harbor bacteria that might affect your healing.

Ongoing Care

Routine Cleaning
For the first 48 hours, clean your tattoo 2-3 times daily using the gentle method described. Wear loose clothing over your tattoo to minimize friction and irritation.

Moisturize After Two Days
From day three onwards, continue washing your tattoo once a day. Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free, hypoallergenic lotion several times daily. Remember to use only a small amount, as excess moisture can impede healing.

Do Not Disturb Scabs
Maintain this care regimen for two weeks and refrain from picking at any scabs. Disturbing scabs can lead to scarring and loss of ink vibrancy.

Aftercare: Saniderm Second-Skin Bandages

Leave the Bandage Intact
If you received a Saniderm second-skin bandage, keep it on for 4-7 days. This breathable and waterproof covering facilitates healing without the need for additional ointments or cleaning.

Carefully Remove the Bandage
After 4-7 days, remove the bandage while in the shower. Peel it back gently, much like a sticker, to prevent discomfort.

Clean and Hydrate
Once the bandage is off, wash the tattoo gently with an antibacterial liquid soap. Keep the tattoo moisturized with an unscented lotion a few times daily to promote healing.

Important Reminders: Avoid These Mistakes

No Immersion in Water
Refrain from soaking your tattoo in any body of water—this includes baths, hot tubs, oceans, or swimming pools. Stick to showers to keep your tattoo clean.

Sun Protection is Key
Limit direct sun exposure to your tattoo, as UV rays can harm the healing skin and fade your ink.

Keep Away from Pets
Avoid contact with animal fur or hair to reduce the risk of infection.

Don’t Scratch or Pick
Itching is normal during healing, but resist the urge to scratch or pick at your tattoo. This can lead to scarring and affect the design’s clarity.
